APPEAL TO COUNTRY
Former chairman of the banned Democratic Society Party (DTP), Ahmet Turk, came together with deputies of his party in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Monday and debated a decision of the Constitutional Court that shut down their party on Friday. In a meeting that lasted four hours, DTP's deputies decided to go back to the country and submit their resignations.
TOKAT WAS A PKK PROVOCATION, ERDOGAN
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attack staged against Turkish troops in the northeastern province of Tokat last week was a provocation by terrorist organization PKK against the Turkish government's democratic move.

"WE ARE OUT, IF OKKES IS IN"
Sixth and last leg of Alevi workshop to be held on December 17 was
overshadowed by the incidents of Maras. When Okkes Sendiller, a suspect of the massacre in Maras, was invited to the workshop, several figures including Fikri Saglar, Arif Sag and Ercan Karakas, refused to take part at the workshop.
State Minister Faruk Celik said, "he is one of the people related to the
Alevi fact. He has been involved in the incidents. But we are not a court jury."
However, Okkes Sendiller insists on attending the workshop.
In 1978, 111 people, mostly Alevis, were killed in incidents in Maras and around 1,000 were injured. Sendiller was tried for nearly two years on charges that he was one of the masterminds. He was acquitted before the military coup in 1980.
DTP APPEALS TO COUNTRY
Ahmet Turk and other members of the outlawed Democratic Society Party were welcomed by 15,000 people in Diyarbakir where they were to attend Democratic Society Congress. At their meeting, DTP executives have decided to do what their hawks wanted. Accordingly, MPs of the party would resign in a few days. However, the key concern is whether or not the parliament will accept their resignations.

MOVE TO GO ON AGAINST ALL ODDS
At the heated session in the Parliament, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "if we give up on the move, Turkey will lose. Democracy, move and brotherhood against all odds..." Erdogan called on former DTP lawmakers to continue making politics in the Parliament.
THREE ARRESTS IN DEATH MINE
The director of the Bukkoy coal mine in Bursa, where 19 workers were killed in a recent explosion, was arrested along with the engineer in charge and the mine chief, for causing death of more than one person due to negligence. The Chamber of Mine Engineers had included the Bukkoy mine among the risk group in their 2009 report.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the Republican People's Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Democratic Society Party (DTP). Speaking to the Turkish Parliamentary General Assembly, Erdogan said that the recent attack on Turkish troops in Resadiye town of the northeastern province of Tokat was a provocation by terrorist organization PKK. "We are in an effort to develop Turkey in all areas. Global capital has come to Turkey like in no other time. The Turkish people and the world know where Turkey has reached," Erdogan said.

The hawks in the banned Democratic Society Party (DTP) were influential in an historic decision. After withdrawing from the Turkish Parliament, the DTP deputies have decided to submit their resignations to the parliament in the next few days.

TENSION IN STREETS, QUARREL IN PARLIAMENT
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan heated up the budget debate, with his style, which otherwise begun rather calmly. Responding to opposition's call to quit the democratic move, Erdogan said the move would continue against all odds. Erdogan who regarded the social tension in streets as local incidents, said the media was exaggerating it.
Main opposition Republican People's Party leader Deniz Baykal said, "the move" was driving the country into a fraternal fight, adding that only those who were out of their minds failed to see it. "Ethnic animosity is growing. Things are getting out of control. The government needs to pull its act together," said Baykal.
Baykal who commented on Erdogan's style said it was a picture of the PM of a rotting government.
DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY PARTY APPEALS TO COUNTRY
Democratic Society Party (DTP) deputies who went to Diyarbakir following the court decision to shut down their party decided to appeal to the country. Ahmet Turk said the resignation letters would be sent to the Parliament shortly.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "they gave their decision, we have not give ours yet."
A large crowd welcomed DTP deputies as they entered Diyarbakir. It took about one and a half hours for the bus to go a distance of three kilometers. The crowd which walked along the bus chanted slogans in support of the terrorist organization.

HERE IS THAT NEIGHBORHOOD
The people of Dolapdere, who attacked DTP members using chopping knives and guns, do not believe they had made a mistake. They refuse to be seen as aggressive people. They say, "we did not attack them. DTP members attacked us. They vandalized the streets."
They say they took up arms just to protect themselves.
Residents of the neighborhood are also angry because their warriors'
photographs were published in newspapers.
"Why do you point them as target?" they say.
HEAT OF GOVERNMENT'S INITIATIVE HITS DEBATE ON BUDGET
The main issue was government's democratic initiative during parliamentary debate on 2010 budget. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a run-in with Deniz Baykal, leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
Baykal said, "Turkey has become a country whose flag and people are
abandoned and helpless. The situation is really serious if AK Party can not take the bend."
Opposition National Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli said that the country had been suffering a problem of survival.
In response to opposition leaders, Erdogan said, "Bahceli should not be
shown on TV for the sake of children." He answered Baykal with reports prepared by CHP. Erdogan had a quarrel with Baykal. He said, "both MHP and DTP say they can go to mountains. Which one is true? The one we are doing..."

"TURKEY WILL LOSE IF WE GIVE UP"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged lawmakers of the Democratic Society Party, who decided to resign, to be a part of the parliament, saying, "parliament is the place for solution to all problems."
"We do not have any patience left to tolerate more pains. We will not give any chance to vampires," Erdogan said.
He said the government had taken all the risk while launching the democratic initiative, adding, "of course it will not be easy. But our people have the will to resolve this problem. Otherwise, Turkey will lose if we give up."
EU: DTP DID NOT KEEP ITS DISTANCE FROM PKK
Spokesperson of the European Commission talked about dissolution of the Democratic Society Party (DTP). Amadeu Tardio said that DTP did not condemn the terrorist organization PKK and it also did not keep its distance from the PKK.
Tardio stated that success of Turkish government's democratic initiative
depends on support from Turkish people and political parties.

After the closure of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), incidents in the
streets of Turkey are causing concern. According to some security experts and strategists, supporters of the terrorist organization PKK want to "slowly cook things up to prepare the stage for a state of emergency in various provinces".
PKK wants to cause a civil war in Turkey and create chaos, a strategist said.

FINAL DECISION IS "APPEAL TO COUNTRY"
Chairman of former Democratic Society Party (DTP), Ahmet Turk, and DTP lawmaker Aysel Tugluk said they decided to appeal to the country and called for dialogue.
Turk who addressed a crowd of DTP supporters in Diyarbakir said everyone should reconsider the dissolution decision with common sense and called for urgent dialogue.
Turk who said that the place for solution of problems was the parliament said they would submit their letters of resignation to the parliament shortly. He said they were for peace and brotherhood.

Fahrettin Colpan, director of the Bukkoy coal mine in Bursa, where 19
workers were killed in a recent explosion, was arrested along with charge hands Hayrettin Celike and Bayram Erdogan on charges of negligence.
Bursa Governor Sahbettin Harput made public the preliminary report on the accident. It said the ventilation and gas detectors were insufficient and there were faults with the dynamite ignition. |
