Officials in Egypt say more than 50 people are missing after two ferries collided in the Nile river Friday.

At least 12 people survived the accident and rescue workers are searching for others.

More than 1,000 people were killed in 2006, when a ferry traveling from Egypt to Saudi Arabia caught fire and sank.

The owner of the ship Mamdouh Ismail was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this year. He also had previously agreed to pay $57 million into a compensation fund for the victims.
