In Austria, a female parliamentarian of Turkish origin was verbally attacked. The extreme right-wing parties FPÖ and BZÖ MPs insulted the Turkish MP Alev Korun.

As MP Korun was reading a letter from an old doctor, she harshly criticized the coalition government’s decision and asked “do we go to the NAZI years?”. When Mrs. Korun criticized the Government the extreme rightist Austrian parliamentarians shouted “go home” “go to Ankara”, “do not speak here but Turkey”. Alev Korun is a Turkish-Austrian politician. Korun is the first Turkish congresswoman in the Austrian Parliament (Greens).

Racism in Austria is a problem that has been well documented for quite some time. With the recent rise of the far right political parties, however, things seem to be getting worse.
