The regional conference was in Bishkek on Wednesday. The EU pledged years ago to make an investment on natural disaster prevention in Central Asia. To date, it has invested about €20 million.

At least one thousand disasters have been prevented and over one thousand rescue crews have been trained in the region with the assistance of the European Commission over the last six years. The EU offers to continue its support of the Central Asian countries.

Representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the European Union and the UN took part in the conference on the reduction of the risk of natural disasters in Central Asia. This cooperation demonstrates that the EU gives importance to Central Asia and its development.
