Thursday, 19 November 2009For the next 5 years, annual inflation will be from 5 to 8 %. The head of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Grigory Marchenko, informed during online conference, Kazakhstan Today agency reports.
According to G. Marchenko, "for the next 5 years, annual inflation will be from 5 to 8 percent". "To suppress inflation down to the European level of 2 percent is unnecessary. It can prevent economic growth. On the other hand, a higher inflation rate would also be harmful for the economy. Therefore, we consider this range - from 5 to 8 percent - in the intermediate term prospect is optimum for the economy of our country," he noted.
Speaking about forecasts of the refinancing rate, the chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan informed that "it all depends on the inflation rate in the country." "We always say that the refinancing rate should be weak positive," G. Marchenko said.
"Now the refinancing rate is 7 percent," the head of the National Bank reminded.
