Wednesday, 18 November 2009Turkish President Abdullah Gul hosted Tuesday a dinner in the honor of his Italian counterpart Giorgio Napolitano at the Cankaya Presidential Residence in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Delivering a speech at the dinner Gul said Napolitano's visit in Turkey would add a momentum to relations and strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two countries as well as boost dialogue in regional and international issues.
"Our relations get their true strength from our will and commitment for cooperation and values we share," Gul said.
Gul thanked Napolitano and the Italian government for Italy's support to Turkey's bid to become a European Union member, saying Turkey's accession to the Union would prove a historic opportunity.
"We need to extend joint effort to revive Europe's dynamics to make European peace, stability, democracy and prosperity an example to the entire world," Gul said.
The Turkish president said Turkey's EU membership would be a concrete sign for what the Alliance of Civilizations project aimed at.
Napolitano said on his part that Turkey's efforts to make EU-inspired reforms showed Turkey's willingness to integrate to the common values and principles of the European continent.
