Tuesday, 10 November 2009The President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, signed the Federal Law on the Amendments of the Federal Law on Defence, Kazakhstan Today agency reports citing the press service of the president of the Russian Federation.
According to the press service, the Federal Law was passed by the State Duma on October 23, 2009 and approved by the Federation Council on October 30, 2009.
"The Federal Law supplements article 10 of the Federal Law on Defense with an item defining that according to the conventional principles and the norms of the international law, the international contracts of the Russian Federation and the Federal Law on Defense, formations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federations can be operatively used outside of the territory of the Russian Federation in the following situations: to repulse an armed attack on formations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other armies or the bodies deployed outside of the territory of the Russian Federation; to repulse or prevent an armed attack on the other state, which addresses the Russian Federation with such a request; protection of the citizens of the Russian Federation abroad from an armed attack, struggle against piracy and guarantee of navigation safety."
