Saturday, 31 October 2009Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Friday the head of the regional administration in north of Iraq, Masoud Barzani, and he shared a joint vision.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Barzani in Iraqi city of Irbil, Davutoglu said that it was high time for the Arabs, Kurds and Turks to re-build the Middle East and take courageous steps.
We have discussed today many important issues with Mr. Barzani, Davutoglu said.
We look at the Iraqis as close relatives, Davutoglu stressed.
We have decided to open a (Turkish) consulate general in Irbil and would like to open this consulate general as soon as possible, Davutoglu said.
Masoud Barzani, in his part, said that Davutoglu's visit to north of Iraq was a crucial step.
We are passing through a sensitive period in the Middle East. Davutoglu's visit during this period carries high importance, Barzani noted.
Touching on the "Democratic Move" of the Turkish government, Barzani said that they supported the Turkish government in this regard.
I congratulate Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mr. Davutoglu for the steps taken within the democratic move, Barzani added. |
