SWINE FLU KILLS TWO PEOPLE
Two more people died due to swine flu in the country. A 34-year-old woman died of swine flu in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir. Besire Bozkurt pregnant for twins died in the hospital and she was diagnosed with A (H1N1) influenza. A 37-year-old woman also died from swine flu in the central province of Konya.

Turkey celebrated the 86th anniversary of the Republic with a great joy. Several ceremonies took place across the country. The Republic was also celebrated in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, foreign representative offices and Turkic states. Many citizens watched the parade at Ataturk Culture Center in Ankara.

CONVERSATION ON EARLY ELECTIONS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal had a conversation full of allusions and smiles at Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, during the celebrations to mark anniversary of the Republic Day in Ankara.
When Baykal hinted early elections and said, "we can not predict what you will do", Erdogan said, "yes, everything may happen at any time."

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug discussed "Action Plan on Fight Against Fundamentalism". "Document bearing wet signature" was taken up during their meeting that lasted for one hour and 20 minutes.
Prime Ministry issued a statement after the meeting, and on the contrary of some Justice & Development (AK) Party spokesmen, it was stated that the document was at the level of allegation and noted, "the process is expected to reveal the facts in the possible shortest time".

MINI SUMMIT AT CANKAYA PALACE
Tension over the "action plan on fight against reactionaries" between
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug marked the October 29th Republic celebrations. Premier Erdogan simply bowed to greet Gen. Basbug during celebrations in the Parliament and hippodrome. The distance between the two was overcome during the half-hour meeting at the Presidential Palace.
Later the two had a tete-a-tete meeting in the Prime Ministry Residence. The tension over the "action plan for fight against reactionaries" was discussed during the meeting. Erdogan and Basbug expressed hope that the process would uncover the truth.

The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office is seeking ways to contact the
anonymous military officer who sent a denouncement letter. The Prosecutor's Office is thinking to post an ad on newspapers to invite the anonymous officer to officially testify. Deputy Chief Prosecutor Turan Colakkadi said, "it's not like we know the sender and it's not revealing it. We don't know it either."

Ceremonies to mark the Republic Day became the first test regarding the matter.
DTP members during the ceremonies relayed the message that "we respect national values".
SWINE FLU CLAIMS TWO MORE LIVES
A 8-month-pregnant woman died of swine flu in hospital in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.
Another woman, who was earlier diagnosed with pneumonia in central Anatolian province of Konya, was reported to have died because of swine flu.

CRITICAL MEETING AT CANKAYA
After Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he would talk to Chief of Staff Gen. Basbug about the "action plan on fight against reactionaries", the two met for the first time at the October 29th Reception. Erdogan and Basbug chatted for a long time. The two also had a meeting in the evening at the Prime Ministry Residence for an hour and a half.
A statement issued by the Prime Ministry after the meeting said the
investigation into the alleged "action plan" was carried out by civil and
military courts. "This process is expected to uncover the truth. Comments
targeting individuals and institutions should be avoided," said the Prime
Ministry.
"DOCTORS CAN'T DETERMINE AUTHENTICITY OF AUTOGRAPHS"
Forensic experts argued that the Forensic Institution (ATK) doctors who
wrote the report saying the autograph on the "action plan on fight against
reactionaries" belonged to Col. Albay Cicek were not qualified to "analyse
autographs". Graphologist Zeynep Bornovali and Guray Akin who work at the ATK in the field of graphology said "what has 'autograph examination' got to do with medical expertise? Graphologists should give the decision." It was claimed that doctors who wrote the report were assigned to their posts only a week before the document was sent.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug had a meeting on Thursday. Erdogan said during his visit to Pakistan that he would meet with Gen. Basbug to discuss "Action Plan on Fight Against Fundamentalism". Erdogan and Gen. Basbug got together at Prime Ministry on October 29. After their meeting a statement was released. It said, "everyone should wait for conclusion of the investigation and refrain from attitudes and statements targeting persons and institutions."

BAHCELI WARNS MHP AGAINST PROVOCATIONS
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chairman Devlet Bahceli issued a communique warning for organs of his party to beware provocations. "There are indicators that certain circles will try to provoke members of the Nationalist Movement Party," said Bahceli who listed 10 measures against provocations. The communique which called everyone to avoid discussions and disputes said, "everyone should beware the call of anti-democratic circles inviting military intervention to democracy, and our members and nation should be informed about these."
Devlet Bahceli said that the "National Responsibility" undertaken by MHP became greater as an atmosphere of social sensitivity emerged where a tiny spark could ignite big explosions. The MHP leader said, "the righteous reaction against ceremonies welcoming PKK members created an atmosphere susceptible to provocations."
FIRST VISIT FROM ANKARA TO IRBIL ON LEVEL OF MINISTERS
The normalisation process between Ankara and the administration in the north of Iraq which has been going on for two years is entering a new phase with an important step which will be taken today. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is travelling to Irbil together with State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan. The ministers will be accompanied by a delegation of businessmen during the visit. As the visit is expected to cover not only Irbil but also Basra and Mosul, political analysts say "Turkey is not only visiting the administration but entire Iraq. Davutoglu will officially open the general consulates in Basra and Mosul. The new Premier of the Regional Administration Berham Salim regarded the visit as historic, and said, "the visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister will pave the way for rapprochement between this region and Turkey."

CROWDED TURKISH DELEGATION TO VISIT NORTH OF IRAQ
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan will travel to the north of Iraq today. A large group of Turkish businessmen will join Turkish ministers during their talks in the Iraqi cities of Basra, Irbil and Mosul. Davutoglu and Caglayan are scheduled to attend opening ceremonies for new consulates-general of Turkey in Iraq.
CEM TRANSFERED TO SILIVRI PRISON
Cem Garipoglu, the prime suspect of the murder of Munevver Karabulut, whose decapitated body was found in a trash container more than seven months ago, was transferred to Silivri Prison from the juvenile ward of Istanbul's Maltepe Prison on Thursday -- on his 18th birthday. |
