Honduras' Foreign Ministry is filing a complaint to the International Court of Justice in The Hague "over Brazil's interference in the country's internal affairs."
Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has been staying the Brazil's embassy in Tegucigalpa since he secretly returned to the country on September 21, and the interim government led by de facto leader Roberto Micheletti accuses Brazil of violating its diplomatic status.
Zelaya was expelled in June and his place was taken by Micheletti, the parliamentary speaker. Talks between Zelaya and Micheletti have so far failed over the refusal of the interim government to reinstate Zelaya.
"The Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa cannot be a place from where political activity is being carried out to the detriment of Honduras' national security," interim Foreign Minister Carlos Lopez said.
Lopez said Zelaya's stay in the embassy allowed the ousted leader to repeatedly address the population urging disobedience and mass protests against the de facto government.
"Honduras retains the right to turn to international legal institutions as well as take preventive measures to terminate the Brazilian side's illegal activity aimed at changing the current order, and will seek the compensation of the inflicted damage," he said.
