A total of 146 people are aboard the Chinese bulk carrier hijacked in the Indian Ocean on Monday, among them 25 are Chinese, spokesperson of the EU naval force said on Monday.

John Harbour told Xinhua on phone that the hijacked bulk carrier flying the Chinese flag was hijacked 550 nautical miles northeast of the Seychelles and 700 nautical miles off the east coast of Somalia.

Harbour said it was unclear where the carrier was heading while it was hijacked. He said that commander of the EU naval force is monitoring the situation.
