Hundreds of Afghans came to the streets in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province and called on election authorities to announce the result of the controversial presidential election held some two months ago, a local newspaper writes Monday.

The peaceful demonstrators, gathering in Spin Boldak district on Sunday, also warned not to use their franchise if the election goes to a second round of voting, daily 8 Subh reported.

Afghanistan's second presidential election since the collapse of the Taliban regime was held amid tight security on August 20 but the final result has yet to be announced due to widespread fraud allegations, Xinhua reported.

Similar peaceful demonstrations have also been held in other cities, calling on the election body to announce the outcome.

Preliminary results put the sitting president Hamid Karzai on top with over 54 percent followed by his top rival Abdullah Abdullah who secured 28 percent of more than 5.5 million votes.
