Iran's opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi said the reform movement would continue in the Islamic state, the Kaleme website reported on Sunday, Reuters reported.

"Our people are not rioters. Reforms will continue as long as people's demands are not met," Mousavi's website quoted him as saying.

Defeated presidential candidate Mousavi and other moderates say the June 12 vote was rigged to secure the re-election of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iranian authorities deny the allegation.

The election and its turbulent aftermath plunged Iran into its deepest internal crisis since the country's 1979 Islamic revolution.

The opposition says more than 70 people were killed in the unrest, more than double the official estimate.

Rights groups say thousands of people were detained after the vote. More than 100 people, including former senior officials, still remain in jail.

Mousavi urged the authorities to release detained people.

"Keeping these people in jail is meaningless. They should be released as soon as possible," Mousavi said in a meeting with relatives of detained former deputy Foreign Minister Mohsen Ameinzadeh, Kaleme reported.
