Turkey and Albania Agree to Introduce Visa Exemption

Turkey and Albania announced Sunday that they agreed to introduce visa exemption and lift entrance fees reciprocally. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and his Albanian counterpart and Deputy Premier Ilir Meta who, met in Tirana on Sunday, held a joint press conference after the meeting.

Davutoglu said the two countries decided to take bilateral relations to the highest level, and to this end agreed to introduce visa exemption, lift entrance fees and exchange diplomats for training purposes.

He said Turkish investments in Albania nearly reached USD 1 billion, with the trade volume rising and relations developing in areas like tourism, education and culture.

The Turkish Minister said Turkey and Albania had a shared perspective on the Balkans and the Mediterranean and said both countries welcomed the agreement between Macedonia and Kosovo. He said the two countries would continue to work together for lasting peace in the region.

Albanian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta said Davutoglu's visit would give a momentum to bilateral relations and with Turkish President Abdullah Gul's upcoming visit in December relations would further be enhanced.

Meta welcomed the signing of the agreement between Kosovo and Macedonia regarding it as a fresh start for Kosovo and a symbol of the understanding between the two countries.
