President Barack Obama has discussed a range of issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, AP reported.

The White House says the two leaders talked about historic progress that is being made to normalize relations between longtime foes Turkey and Armenia.

Obama also expressed appreciation for Turkey's contributions to the effort in Afghanistan. Obama currently is reviewing U.S. policy in Afghanistan and deciding whether to send in more American troops. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.
