Azerbaijan, Baku, October 16 / Trend News D. Khatinoglu /

The former Afghan presidential candidate Ramazan Bashardust, who gained the third place as a result of elections, said that huge falsification was made during the elections on Aug. 20. "I could not even imagine what there will be a huge falsification by President Karzai and Abdullah," Bashardust told Trend News by telephone from Kabul on Oct. 16.

The results of the presidential elections in Afghanistan have not yet been approved by the Independent Election Commission, but according to preliminary estimates, President Hamid Karzai is leading, he gained 55 percent of the total number of votes (3.93 million votes), followed by Abdullah Abdullah (1.571 million votes) and Bashardust who ranked the third (0.5 million votes). The Independent Election Commission reported that 3,000 complaints were received regarding elections.

Bashardust said that the legitimacy of the Karzai government is questionable, since the Independent Election Commission received a report on falsification of 1.5 million votes. "There talks about the falsification of more than 1.1 million votes in favor of Karzai and about 300,000 votes in favor of Abdullah, and still this question is unclear," said Bashardust.

According to Bashardust, neither the government nor the West, nor the UN and even the Independent Election Commission have taken any steps to carry out transparent and fair elections.

Bashardust also said that, taking into account all the complaints, the Independent Election Commission had to calculate votes from 3,063 boxes, but did not do this.
