The biggest success of Azerbaijan is the establishment of an independent state, the leader of the Azerbaijani opposition party said.

"Establishing an independent state, our citizens once again feel a sense of pride, raising our tricolor flag," Etibar Mammadov, leader of Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP), told Trend News on Oct. 19.  

Every year Azerbaijan celebrates October 18 as State Independence Day.

In the end of XX century, due to historical chance as a result of collapse of the Soviet Union, and the opportunities provided by fate itself, the people of Azerbaijan for the second time in the past century raised the banner of independence. This was the second brilliant victory in the political history of Azerbaijani people in the 20th century.

At a historic session of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan Republic on Oct. 18, 1991 was unanimously adopted the Constitutional Act on State Independence of the Azerbaijan Republic.
