Deputy Chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) expressed dissatisfaction to the U.S. Embassy regarding the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group.
"Party's Deputy Chairman Ali Ahmadov complained about the inactivity of the OSCE Minsk Group and said that the Azerbaijani people was dissatisfied with the biased activity of the group," official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party said.
The Deputy Chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov met with the Political Advisor of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Joanne Hansen. He informed her in detail on the preparations for the municipal elections in the country, which will be held on December 23, innovations, definition of candidates, working with them and carrying out propaganda work, as well as preference, which is given to youth and women in these elections.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
The NAP was established by the chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Heydar Aliyev in 1992. The current President Ilham Aliyev is the chairman of the Party which has been ruling for already 16 years.
