Tuesday, 13 October 2009The First Ministerial Meeting of the Turkey-Syria High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council began in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, state ministers Hayati Yazici and Cevdet Yilmaz, National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, Interior Minister Besir Atalay, Health Minister Recep Akdag, Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz and Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu are participating in the meeting.
Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani and interlocutors of Turkish ministers are representing Syria in the meeting.
"The main slogan of this meeting is common destiny, history and future, and we will build the future together," Davutoglu said during the opening ceremony of the meeting.
Davutoglu also said that the two countries would celebrate lifting of visa procedures as a feast.
The Turkish minister said that Turkey and Syria could turn their economic cooperation into economic integration, and wished that their relations would be a model for other neighboring countries.
A press conference will take place after the meeting.
The morning session of the meeting is in Aleppo, and the afternoon session will take place in the Turkish southeastern city of Gaziantep.
Two countries are expected to sign a visa exemption agreement on the sidelines of the meeting. |
