At least 29 people were killed and many others wounded today in a northwest Pakistani district next to Swat Valley, Pakistan.

Swat is reported to be the center of a military offensive against the Taliban.

Police official Tahir Khan said the explosion occurred at a market and may have been a car bombing.

The Associated Press (AP) has reported that after the attacks, Taliban spokesmen Azam Tariq said, “This was our first small effort and a present to the Pakistani and American governments.” Moreover, the news highlighted the Taliban spokesman’s warning to the army against launching the offensive into South Waziristan.
