VOICE OF NORTH
Young people in northern part of Iraq want to set up dialogue and improve relations with Turkey to remove all kinds of prejudices between the two societies. Film director Miran Shawkat told the daily HURRIYET that Turkey's secular and democratic structure was a great role model for them. "We need a leader (like Ataturk) here to separate religious and state affairs from each other," he added.

"WE ARE NOT FASCIST"
Just nine days before the World Cup game between Turkish and Armenian national soccer teams, soccer fans in the northwestern province of Bursa said that they were neither racist nor fascist. Mehmet Guzelsoz, leader of the fan group Texas, said that they would host Armenian fans with famous Turkish hospitality. "We can make a gesture and sing a known Armenian folk song all together."

DEMOCRATIC MOVE TOPS TURKEY'S AGENDA
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said that he would give a written response to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who was going to send him a letter about the government's recent democratic move. Baykal will first assess the letter's content before accepting Prime Minister Erdogan's demand for an appointment. Meanwhile, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli called on Prime Minister Erdogan to give up his "democratic move" initiatives.

SABAH

BILGE VILLAGE TO MOVE TO THRACE
Interior Ministry will take relatives of suspects of the massacre in Bilge
village of the southeastern province of Mardin. Next week, 94 people will move to a 3-block housing complex in one of the provinces in Thrace. On May 4, 44 people were killed at a wedding ceremony in Bilge village. 13 suspects are on trial.

"WE WILL NOT BE THE ONE TO BLOCK THE PROCESS"
Democratic Society Party (DTP) chairman Ahmet Turk said government's democratic move would not be successful unless the constitution is amended.
"We expect Mr. Prime Minister to be bold and decisive. Kurds are resolute to live together like brothers. This process should not turn into a process of delay. The key is in Imrali island. PKK should not be excluded from this solution process," Turk said.

"WE DID NOT BELIEVE IN THEIR PROPOSALS"
Deputy Prime Minister & State Minister for economy Ali Babacan explained why the government has not yet signed a loan deal with the International Monetary Fund: "we did not believe in what the Fund said."

VATAN

BETWEEN TWO FIRES
Harsh words from opposition parties Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Democratic Society Party (DTP) to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's move... DTP chairman Ahmet Turk said the move would not be successful without (head of terrorist organization) Ocalan.
"We do not have any problem with the Republic or the flag. We just want equal status with rights and liberties," Turk said and made his first criticism.
"The move would not be successful without a new constitution. How can you make a move with September 12 laws?"
MHP chairman Devlet Bahceli was very harsh at the government and Prime Minister Erdogan.
"Do not take your place in history as the prime minister who betrayed. If we become the government one day, we catch you and send you to the Supreme Court. We absolutely ask for account," Bahceli said.

THAT NOTORIOUS RUNWAY AGAIN
Serbia's Jat Airways plane, with 125 passengers on board travelling from Belgrade, started to land at 06-24 runway, which was known for accidents, at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport. The Boeing 737-300 skidded nearly 50 meters off the runway and plunged in mud. Luckily, no one was hurt in the accident. The 2,300-meter runway is 700 meters shorter than the other.

CUMHURIYET

DTP ASKS AMENDMENT OF FIRST THREE ARTICLES
Democratic Society Party (DTP) chairman Ahmet Turk said Kurdish problem was the only answer to question why Turkey could not make progress. He called on Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be "bold" and said the government's democratic move could be successful only if the constitution is amended. Turk asked no extension of parliament motion that gives authority to government for cross-border military operation, cessation of military operations, and he wanted the government to see head terrorist Abdullah Ocalan as an interlocutor.
DTP deputy chairperson Emine Ayna asked government to amend first three irrevocable articles of the Constitution.

"WE WILL LEAVE CRISIS BEHIND 10-12 MONTHS LATER"
IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said IMF-World Bank annual meetings in Istanbul were a great chance for shaping the post-crisis world. Unemployment will start to decline gradually in most of the countries 10-12 months later. He said at that time everybody would discuss the question "what's next?"
Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said Turkish government would begin economic austerity policies.
"We must have a bitter pill," Babacan said.
