Sunday, 4 October 2009Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan urged world's major economies to make a stand against protectionism in trade, finance and investments in order to weather the global economic crisis in the shortest time possible.
Turkey is one of the four G20 countries not taking protectionist measures, Erdogan told the opening dinner of the annual membership meeting of the Institute of International Finance, or IIF, held in Istanbul on Saturday.
Erdogan called on major economies to stay in harmony in global scale while implementing measures to overcome crisis. He said G20 should continue to work actively and contribute to strategies of the International Monetary Fund and the Financial Stability Board.
Erdogan also said international lenders should not cut flow of funds into developing countries.
He said financial markets have recently started to see recovery, adding that it was now time to reform and strengthen the global financial architecture to avoid such a crisis in the future.
Erdogan said his government had chance to detect weak spots of Turkish economy in the crisis and stated that the government was now trying to reinforce these weak spots to get prepared for the post-crisis period. |
