"YOU'RE LIER"
Ohio Elections Commission of the United States has ruled that the
Armenian-descent independent congressional candidate David Krikorian "lied" when accusing Republican Congresswoman Jean Schmidt of taking bribe from Turkish authorities to support the Turkish theses on the incidents of 1915. Earlier, during a 2008 election campaign, Krikorian claimed that Schmidt had taken 30,000 USD as bribe from the Turkish government and Turkish-American associations in order to support Turkey's stance regarding the draft law on Armenian allegations.
Upon such accusation, congresswoman Schmidt applied to Ohio Elections Commission and filed a complaint against Krikorian.

PRESIDENT GUL EXPLAINS "SINGLE NATION"
President Abdullah Gul explained what he meant by "single nation" during his address to the parliament during the opening of the new legislative year. Gul replied to questions on board the plane en route to Nakhichevan. When he was reminded of "single nation" that he used during the address to the parliament, Gul said cultural difference is a richness. "Difference should not be misunderstood. It is also for the single nation."

We have asked President Abdullah Gul if he will become a candidate again in 2012? Here is the answer: "It is up to the parliament."

"I DESTROYED THAT NIKE"
Daily Birgun's editor Selcuk Ozbek, who had thrown his shoe at IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was not wearing those shoes the day after the protest.
Asked "why did you get rid of those shoes?", Ozbek said, "because it has become a meta. So, I destroyed it. It is not the quality of the shoe, it is the fact that it had been thrown."

AK PARTY TO HOLD REGULAR CONVENTION
The ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party will hold its third regular
convention in Ankara on Saturday. The convention will begin at 10 a.m. Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is also the chairman of the AK Party, will address the party members. The party will elect the new chairman, and members of Central Executive Board (MKYK), disciplinary board and democracy board. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is among the surprising names for members of the MKYK.

CONSUMER PRICE INDEX UNDER EXPECTATION
Consumer prices index increased 0.39 percent and producers prices index rose 0.62 percent in September, 2009. Annual inflation increased 5.27 percent in consumer prices index, and rose 0.47 percent in producer prices index as of September.

BAD NEWS FROM UNITED STATES
Markets have ignored bad news recently and it was always the upward trend being underlined. But U.S. jobless figures made public yesterday have caused panic in markets. It was projected that at most 180,000 people would join the army of jobless in September, however this figure was 263,000. Optimistic approach that "the worst part is behind, world will recover quickly from now on" has vanished.
U.S. figures have caused sales in all bourses in the world. The Istanbul
Stock Exchange's loss reached 3 percent for a moment, while European stocks lost 2 percent.

PROSECUTORS NOL-PROS INDICTMENT AGAINST AVSAR
Turkish actress and singer Hulya Avsar, who was charged with inciting hatred and animosity after her interview regarding government's Kurdish move, will not be tried. After Avsar's two-hour testimony given two days ago, prosecutors nol-prossed the indictment against Avsar, saying the interview was a freedom of expression and criticism.

WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN?
The number of missing children doubled in the first nine months of 2009 when compared to the same period last year. It has become 1,078. According to the figures of the police department, 133 applications were made for missing children in western province of Izmir. 106 applications were made in Ankara and 84 applications in Mersin province. Five children were recorded missing in southeastern province of Diyarbakir in the last 10 days.

PROTESTS AGAINST IMF
Students and nongovernmental organizations protested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank annual meetings in Istanbul. Protestors said that the policies of the IMF and World Bank would impoverish the people more.
They chanted slogans against the fund and the bank during demonstrations in Taksim and at Istanbul University.

FIRST STEP, FIRST MOVE
The first step which is expected to be taken within the scope of "democratic move" will be taken on broadcasting in Kurdish. The Supreme Board of Radio & Television (RTUK) prepared a draft regulation on broadcasting in Kurdish on private radio and TV channels for 24 hours.

INFLATION FIGURES
Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) said that consumer prices index increased 0.39 percent and producers prices index rose 0.62 percent in September, 2009.
Annual inflation increased 5.27 percent in consumer prices index, and rose 0.47 percent in producer prices index as of September, added TUIK. Consumer prices index rose 2.18 percent and producer prices index increased 3.60 percent in the first nine months of 2009.

TURKEY STEPS IN FOR PEACE
Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Turkey was in talks with Iran and the West for a settlement of nuclear row by means of diplomacy.
"We have been exerting efforts since from the first day of the issue and we will continue until we get a result. More than that, one can not say 'there are nuclear weapons in this country' without any investigations," Gul said.

TURKIC STATES CONVENE
Turkish President Abdullah Gul has gone to Azerbaijan's Nakhichevan
Autonomous Republic to attend the summit meeting of Turkic-speaking countries.
Gul will meet leaders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. He said the summit aims to increase the role of Turkic-speaking states in the international community.

ISTANBUL TAKES FIRST STEP ON BECOMING GLOBAL FINANCE CENTER
Turkey is moving on the way to become the center of attraction in the
sectors of automotive, textile and electronics in the world. The government
speeded up the works to make Istanbul a center of global finance. Istanbul
International Finance Center Strategy and Action Plan was issued at the Official Gazette on Friday. IMF and World Bank annual meetings are considered a suitable platform for works to make Istanbul a global finance center.

GUL: "IT IS UP TO PARLIAMENT"
President Abdullah Gul made important statements on several issues on board the plane en route to Nakhichevan. When asked whether he will become a presidential candidate again, Gul said, "the parliament will decide on such matters."

ATTENTION! JOINT ROBBERY SPOT
After huge profits although it was crisis-time, Turkish banks have broken new ground in Europe, joining their ATM (automated-teller machine) networks starting October 1. However, automated fees have been described almost a "robbery". People still do not know which bank charges how much.
But people must pay a fee between 20 kurus and 1 TL at least per
transaction. Ziraat Bank is charging 1 percent of the money drawn, Vakifbank is charging 4.5 TL per ATM transaction, Halkbank cuts 1.25 fixed fee and 1.25 percent commission.

UNCONDITIONAL GENERAL AMNESTY
Yeni Safak discloses the Kurdish Report prepared by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) who were severely against government's democratic move.
Prepared by CHP executives together with academicians, the report includes extreme proposals from unconditional general amnesty for members of the terrorist organization PKK to cessation of military operations against PKK.
In the report, CHP asks government to include, not only Kurdish people, but also all other problems in the democratic move and offers "Democratic Turkey move".
