Turkey's chief EU negotiator said that Turkey was aiming to become a full member to EU and would not accept "privileged partnership".
Egemen Bagis, who is also a state minister, hosted a dinner in honor of the members of the Enlargement Group of the European Council in Istanbul.
Bagis told the dinner that EU should think big and reasonable. He said Turkey was part of solutions to foreign policy and security issues, as well as energy security and fight against terrorism and illegal immigration.
Europe could resolve these problems easier, Bagis said, adding that EU would need Turkey more and more in the future.
Bagis said only one third of chapters were opened so far in negotiations between Turkey and the 27-nation bloc.
"It is important to open chapters but reform process is more important. Do not hinder us. We do not expect a special support from you, just do not hinder. Do not block our way. Give Turkey a chance," Bagis told group members.
Bagis said there was no such thing as a "privileged partnership" in EU acquis, and he once again said Turkey would not accept it.
He said Turkey regards the privileged partnership as derogatory and added that "Turkey's goal is full membership."
