German authorities say they have arrested a man suspected of recruiting for al-Qaida and obtaining bomb-making materials.

Federal prosecutors say police detained the suspect after a search uncovered explosive materials and devices at an apartment in the city of Offenbach and a business in nearby Frankfurt.

Authorities say the man has both Turkish and German citizenship, but identified him only as Adnan V.

He is suspected of seeking members or supporters for al-Qaida through propaganda materials on the Internet.

Authorities say they do not believe he is linked to a recent series of extremist videos threatening attacks on Germany.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP.
