U.S. Senator for Indiana and member of the U.S. Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Lugar, said Tuesday the protocols to be signed by Turkey and Armenia were "historical agreements" for both countries as well as the world.
Speaking to the AA after a conference in Washington D.C., Senator Lugar said that an undesirable debate had been going on between Turkey and Armenia for a long time.
I hope that there would not be any obstacle before boosting relations between Turkey and Armenia, Lugar said.
I am hopeful that the sub-committee to be established by the two countries would contribute to the solution of a disagreement on the incidents of 1915, Lugar stressed.
The debate on the incidents of 1915 has an impact on U.S. politics. Almost every year, this issue comes up at the U.S. Congress. This is something not healthy for us and our relations with Turkey and Armenia. Reaching an agreement on this topic would be a real victory, Lugar said.

-"DEMOCRATIC MOVE"-
Lugar said that he congratulated the Turkish government for its "democratic move".
I applaud the Turkish government for realizing the importance of establishing better relations with the Kurdish population. This is not important merely for Turkey but Iraq as well, Lugar also said.
