Tuesday, 29 September 2009U.S. President Barack Obama is to travel to Denmark later this week to support Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Michelle Obama TheWhite House says the president will arrive in Copenhagen early Fridaylocal time, just before Chicago's presentation to the voting members ofthe International Olympic Committee. First Lady Michelle Obama willarrive in Copenhagen Wednesday leading the U.S. delegation.
IOCmembers vote Friday on which of the four candidate cities -- Chicago,Madrid, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo -- will earn the right to host the 2016Olympics.
The White House says the president and first ladywill make presentations to the IOC during Friday's session. Chicagofaces tough competition from the other cities.
U.S.talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who tapes her popular television show inChicago, will also be in Denmark to lobby for Chicago.
While inCopenhagen, Mr. and Mrs. Obama will meet with Queen Margrethe. Thepresident will also meet with Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
The White House says Mr. Obama will arrive back in Washington Friday afternoon. |
