Saturday, 26 September 2009The Turkish state minister for foreign trade said on Friday that China was interested in investing in Turkey.
Turkey's State Minister Zafer Caglayan said the Chinese had chosen Turkey as a partner.
Caglayan had a meeting with CEOs of Chinese and Turkish firms, visited Shanghai EXPO Center, and chatted with reporters.
Speaking to reporters, Caglayan said Chinese businessmen wanted to invest in renewable energy in Turkey and establish partnerships with Turkish companies.
Caglayan said Chinese automotive companies "Geely" and "Chery" and a Chinese automotive spare part company DFM were also eager to invest in Turkey. The Turkish minister said Shangri-La hotel chain would also construct a giant hotel in Istanbul till 2011.
Caglayan said Turkey could also export tobacco to China after a Chinese delegation visited Turkey in coming days and examined the Turkish tobacco.
Also, a company manufacturing batteries used in electric automobiles wanted to cooperate with Turkey, he said.
The Turkish minister said what Turkey was trying to establish with China was strategic cooperation.
Caglayan said the Chinese prime minister could visit Turkey with a mutual investment agreement and cooperation protocol.
"The Chinese want to make use of Turkey's relations with its neighbors in the Middle East like Iraq and Syria and European Union (EU) member states such as Romania," Caglayan said. |
