Saturday, 26 September 2009The Turkish Cypriot president met European Union (EU) foreign policy chief on Friday.
President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) had a meeting with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana at the United Nations (UN) House in New York.
During the meeting, Talat said TRNC was not negotiating for two autonomous regions in Cyprus.
"If Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias thinks like this, he should wake up from that dream," Talat told reporters.
Talat said that he told Solana that the EU member Greek Cypriot administration should be warned about certain issues, and Thursday's speech of Christofias at the UN General Assembly was unacceptable.
Christofias harmed all basic principles of the ongoing Cyprus talks with that speech, he said.
Talat said, "within this framework, I do not know how negotiations will go on."
The TRNC president also said the UN should exert more efforts about settlement of Cyprus issue.
Talat will meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the UN House on Monday.
