Friday, 25 September 2009Turkey's parliament speaker has departed for Azerbaijan to attend a summit meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries (PATC).
Speaking to reporters prior to his departure from Ankara's Esenboga Airport, Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin said that the multi-dimensional relations between Turkey and its strategic regional partner Azerbaijan would be on the agenda of his talks in this country.
Sahin said he would meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Parliament Speaker Oktay Asadov and Prime Minister Artur Rasizade as part of his visit, and later on, he would hold a series of talks in the Azerbaijani city of Gence.
He said that he would attend PATC's first general assembly meeting on September 28-29.
"PATC will strengthen Turkey's cooperation with Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan. Parliaments are the representatives of nations. Therefore, such dialogue and cooperation indicate the close relations between nations as well," he said.
Upon a question on Azerbaijan's concerns over the protocol recently initialised by Turkey and Armenia, Sahin said such matter would most probably be discussed during his talks and he would express Turkey's approach to the issue as the country's parliament speaker. |
