Wednesday, 16 September 2009The Anatolian Agency reported that the governor of Syria’s Haseki Province, Muazza Necip Sellum, has stated they will open a new border gate between Syria and Turkey. This will add to a cultural, economic and political relationship between the two sides which has been improving in recent years.
On the Turkish side, the border will pass from Nusaybin and from the Syrian side, Kamisli (Al-Qamischli). Sellum said it is believed the gate will contribute to both Turkey and Syria’s economic activity.
“Syria tries to see Turkey as a model. Turkey surprised the World by improving so much in a short time, 15 years. The economic increase between Turkey and Syria will be beneficial for both. Now the existing gates are not replying our needs; the negotiations between the Turkish and Syrian committees resulted positively and it is decided to open the new gate. ”
Sellum said that the Syrian side completed its way works and compulsorily land purchases for the transit passings and are ready for the construction, adding that if Turkey also accelerates their work, the gate can be opened earlier.
He also said that they welcome the cleaning of the 240 thousand hectares land from mines adding, “We support the lift of borders between the two countries. The mine land and cultivation for agriculture will also empower people of both sides.”
