Understanding key market changes and carbon reduction opportunities
Mövenpick Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey, 29—30, September 2009

This key regional event is a high level business networking conference, which will focus on the developments and business opportunities in the voluntary and compliance carbon markets in Turkey, Southern Caucasus, and Central Asia.

The voluntary carbon market is growing rapidly in Turkey and capacity building is crucial for both government agencies and the private sector. Turkey is a leader in producing high standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs) from renewable energy projects. “Voluntary carbon trading projects in Turkey have increased rapidly, reaching 45 from 30 in the first quarter of 2008 and resulting in a greenhouse gas reduction of about 5 million tons and about 20 million Euros in gains” according to the Turkish newspaper, Today's Zaman in March 2009. Turkey ratified the Kyoto Protocol at the beginning of 2009, but its position is uncertain post-2012. Carbon Markets Turkey, South Caucasus & Central Asia will bring key stakeholders together to discuss what opportunities remain in the voluntary carbon market until 2012, and the different possible outcomes for the country post-Kyoto.

Industry leading speakers include:

Haluk Özdalga, Chairman of the Environment Committee, Grand National Assembly of Turkey
