Japan provides $85,370 to equip Central hospital in Baysun

"Provision of Central hospital situated in Baysun district of Surkhandarya region with new medical equipment" project, implemented within the no-strings aid was officially opened on 20 August. The project was implemented as a grant project of Japan government.

The Baysun Central hospital will be equipped with cardio monitor devices and other modern medical equipment worth a total of $85,370 within this project.

"Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate employees of the Central hospital, the population of the region with this kind of innovation. The ceremony held today is a symbol of friendship between Uzbekistan and Japan", said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Tsutomu Hiraoka.

With a purpose of improvement of the Uzbek population welfare, Japanese government since 1995 has been implementing a grant program for small scale projects in the spheres of education, public health, and increasing the social status of women.

During 15 years, 262 projects worth $15 million were implemented. Among these, 17 projects worth $1.6 million were in Surkhandarya region, focused on secondary schools, hospitals and others.

The government of Japan pays great attention to collaboration with Uzbekistan in the sphere of public health. Since 1994 a total of 8 projects worth $42.4 million were implemented within the network of grant aid.

Besides, another program on grant aid to social small scale projects is being implemented since 1995 in regional and rural hospitals of Uzbekistan. Implementation of 55 projects worth $3.9 million can testify it.

Also Japan volunteers and specialists are carrying out their activity within the scope of technical collaboration in the process of implementation of the project of "Sisterly education", and Uzbek specialists are also thus invited to Japan for trainings in the sphere of public health.

In the beginning of the current year, which was declared by the President of Uzbekistan as the Year of Rural Development, the Japanese envoy signed grant contracts within the scope of no-strings aid to 6 hospitals of the republic worth $514,600.

"I think the new medical equipment of the Central hospital will serve to increase of the level of medical services in republic regions, and will positively affect the health and lifetime of the population. Besides, I wish all the regions of the republic prosperity and development," said Tsutomu Hiraoka.

"I believe the friendship relations between our countries will not stop on the achieved, and will deepen in the future, and this project, such kind of grant aid will serve as a friendship bridge between our people", he added.
