Uzbek diplomats attend workshop on economic diplomacy

A three-day training on "Economic Diplomacy" was held at Charvak Oromgohi Hotel in the Charvak recreational zone.

The event was organized by the joint project of UNDP and the MFA "Enhancing the capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to better respond to the emerging issues of the new millennium" in cooperation with local partners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 30 diplomats of the middle and junior levels as well as specialists and experts from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the training that was aimed to provide participants with an enhanced understanding of the theory and practice of modern economic diplomacy, international trade, updated knowledge and information on the activities of key international organizations including the World Trade Organization and others, practical skills in promoting economic and trade interests of the country.

The training was kindly provided in Uzbekistan by International expert Mr. Osvaldo Agatiello, Professor from the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations, who has a solid academic background and experience in providing quality trainings in the area of economic diplomacy and international relations.

Over the past three days, the expert facilitated a series of intensive, interactive training sessions that enable participants to better understand the conceptual approaches in promoting country's trade and investment, complexity of international trade system, activities of the World Trade Organization, international trade and investment dispute settlement procedures and instruments.

It is expected that the information and experience received in the course of the training would provide diplomats with better understanding of foundations of economic diplomacy and, improve their knowledge and skills enabling them to contribute effectively in promoting economic and trade interests of their country.
