Uzbektelecom revenue up 15.8% to 127.1 billion soums in 1H 2009

Uzbektelecom joint-stock company, telecommunication operator of Uzbekistan, increased its revenue in January-June 2009 by 15.8% year-on-year to 127.1 billion soums. The company's profit in the reporting period comprised 11 billion soums.

Supervisory Council of Uzbektelecom held its next session on 17 August to consider the results of the company's financial and economic activity and fulfillment of business plan in the first half of 2009, as well as other issues related to the company operation.

"We are continuing implementing some large projects on the modernization, expansion and development of telecommunication networks, introduction of new services, installation of telephones in social infrastructure objects. Special attention is paid to the development of rural telecommunication facilities," said Shukhrat Sadikov, Director General of Uzbektelecom.

Uzbektelecom realized capital investments worth 14.2 billion soums in the first half of 2009, mainly at the expense of own funds, according to the information provided by the company's press service.

Within the framework of the Year of Rural Development state program, the company continued implementing measures on reconstruction and modernization of 72 rural analog telephone stations in Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent and other regions of the republic.

Besides, Uzbektelecom carried out the installation of telephones in social infrastructure objects in the rural area, intended for 2009/10. In the reporting period the company provided 3,363 schools, 2,388 preschool establishments, 1,249 rural medical stations, 93 colleges, and 70 outpatient polyclinics with telephone communication.

All children's crèche, mercy houses and academic lyceums in Uzbekistan have been equipped with telephone communication completely so far. Moreover, 96.9% of hospitals, 96.3% of clinics, 95% of colleges, 91.2% of sanatoriums in the country have telephone lines.
