Thursday, 6 August 2009Kyrgyzstan will suggest Russia locating its military base in the territory of Batkensky area adjoining Uzbekistan, a source in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan informed "Kazakhstan Today" agency.
According to the source, various "incidents" frequently happen at the frontier of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan." "For example, there are conflicts due to shortage of irrigation water in summertime," he said.
The day before, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Russia, Raimkul Attakurov, informed the representatives of the Russian mass media, "Bishkek will insist that the new Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan would be located closer to the border with Uzbekistan, in Batkensky area."
