Unknown armed men attacked on Monday a vehicle of Korean nationals in Faryab province, northwest of Afghanistan, killing their local driver, police said, reported Xinhua.

"The armed men opened fire on the vehicle of three Korean road engineers in Kariz village of Pashtonkot district at 07:00 a.m.( GMT0230), the culprits made their good escape after killing the driver," a senior police officer in the province Mohammad Afzal Imamzada told Xinhua.

He also added that the Korean engineers were busy in ring road building in Faryab province.

All the trio Korean nationals are safe and sound, he added.

Meantime, Korean company which is busy in asphalting the road between Faryab's provincial capital Maimana and Almar district halted work, saying it would not resume unless their security is ensured, the police official said.

No groups or individuals have claimed responsibility for the attack on Koreans.

Taliban militants on July 2007 kidnapped 21 Korean nationals from the southern Ghanzi province and after killing two of them released the remaining 19 after about one month in captivity.
