Saturday, 25 July 2009Presidential elections of Kyrgyzstan took place, "Kazakhstan Today" agency reports citing the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan, Damir Lissovsky.
"61.83 % of citizens of the country took part in the elections by 15.00."The elections consider to be completed if 51 % of the population take part in them," the chairman of the Central Election Committee explained. The chair of the Central Election Committee of Kyrgyzstan said, "Elections took place in the country transparently."
However, the representatives of the National Movement of Kyrgyzstan stated that the elections took place in the country with rough infringements. The leaders of the group and the candidates for the president's post, Almazbek Atambaev and Zhenishbek Nazaraliev, made the statement calling upon Kyrgyzstan citizens to recognize elections not taken place in connection with mass infringements of the election legislation. In addition, they called upon the citizens of Kyrgyzstan to take part in peaceful demonstrations planned for today at 20.30 p.m.
As informed earlier, six candidatues applied for the president's post of Kyrgyzstan: the current head of the Republic, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the leader of Muslim Group Zhoomart, Nurlan Motuev, the representative of opposition, Almazbek Atambaev, a well-known doctor, an expert in narcology, Zhenishbek Nazaraliev, the chairman of the party Akshumkar, Temir Sariev, and chairman of NGO and NCO of Kyrgyzstan, Toktoyym Umetalieva.
According to the chairman of the Central Election Commission, Damir Lissovsky, 53 regional and 2330 local election committees were created in Kyrgyzstan.
