Tuesday, 21 July 2009Pohang Steelers will soon sign a foreign striker to strengthen their attack ahead of the side's AFC Champions League quarter-finals against Uzbekistan's Bunyodkor in September.
After his side's 2-0 victory over Gyeongnam FC away over the weekend, Pohang coach Sergio Farias said that the foreign striker will help the team in the crucial continental fixture apart from Korea League and Peace Cup.
Macedonian Stevica Ristik opened Pohang's account in the very first minute and Yoo Chang-hyun sealed three points in the stoppage time to take their team to fourth place in the standings with 25 points, eight less than leaders and fellow ACL quarter-finalists FC Seoul.
"Yoo played very well today but I think he has potential to do better. As he gets more experience in the K-League, he will get more confidence," Farias said. "We will also sign a foreign striker soon to fortify our frontline before the ACL encounter."
A brace from Dejan Djamjanovic and a strike from Lee Chung-yong saw FC Seoul beat Gangwon 3-1 to keep their two-point lead atop the table while second-placed Jeonbuk Motors sidelined Daegu FC 3-0.
In other games, Gwangju lost to Jeju United 1-0, Chunnam brushed aside Busan I'Park 3-2, Suwon Bluewings overcame Daejon 1-0 and Ulsan played 0-0 draw with Seongnam.
