Two people have died in a gas explosion in a residential building in the West Siberian city of Omsk, an emergencies ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

"A four-year-old boy died during an emergency operation on Wednesday, and early on Thursday the body of a woman was found under rubble," the spokesman said.

Four people were injured in the explosion, and a three-year-old boy and a woman have been hospitalized.

The spokesman also confirmed that rescue workers had determined there were no more bodies under the debris.

Seven apartments, on the fourth and fifth floors of the five-storey building, were damaged in the blast.

An investigation has been launched.
