Law-enforcement agencies of the Central Asian countries need to set up a working group that will draw up proposals to counter organized crime in the region.
A recommendation was included to this effect in the final document of a meeting held in Astana last Wednesday, 1 July. Deputy interior ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan as well as the Mongolian deputy minister of justice and home affairs attended the meeting, a press release circulated by the OSCE centre in Astana said.

According to information, participants in the meeting "expressed concern about the negative impact of organized crime on peace, stability and security, and adopted a number of recommendations".
