Azerbaijan may announce non-working days in case of high temperature, the Cabinet of Ministers said.

If temperature is above 41 degree of Celsius or more than that non-working days can be announced, the Cabinet of Ministers said.

According to the forecast, temperature can exceed 41 degrees in July in Azerbaijan.

Temperature is expected to be above 42 degrees in central lowland areas and Nakhchivan, said Asif Verdiyev, chief hydrologist at Bureau of Meteorological Forecasts.

Earlier, the Labor Code of Azerbaijan has been amended to stipulate that non-working days will be announced when the air temperature reaches 41 degrees Celsius. According to the previous law, this limit was 45 degrees.

Verdiyev said bureau lets the relevant bodies to know about anomalous heat and unstable weather conditions in advance and based on this forecast bodies must take the necessary steps.

He said it is the Cabinet of Ministers which decides this issue.

Amendments to the Labor Code requires to determine procedural rules to govern the matter, said Sahib Mammadov, head of the League for the Protection of Labor Rights, said. He said at a high temperature and lack of artificial regulation of climate, management of agencies should suspend work and working time should be reduced.

However, Mammadov does not believe that private companies will follow the requirements of the legislation. "The law provides for non-working days in case of cold and windy weather, but private companies are continuing their work, in particular, this applies to the construction sector," Mammadov said.
