Egypt is reportedly planning to buy sophisticated Russian-built anti-aircraft systems, known as S-300 and S-400, to upgrade its defense capabilities, reported Press TV.

According to a report by Ria Novosti, the Egyptian army is eyeing the S-300 surface-to-air missile system, which can track targets and fire at aircraft 120 km (75 miles) away.

The S-300 system features high jamming immunity and is able to simultaneously engage up to 100 targets.

Designed as an upgrade of the S-300 family, Russia's sate-of-the-art S-400 missile defense system can intercept and destroy airborne targets at a distance of up to 400 kilometers (250 miles).

The system is reportedly capable of detecting and engaging stealth aircraft as well.

To advance its defense system, Iran has also been negotiating a deal with Russia to obtain the sophisticated S-300 defense system. However, neither side has so far issued an official confirmation on the delivery of the S-300 to Iran.
