A 17-year-old Palestinian girl was killed, and five other civilians were wounded on Thursday by an IDF tank shell which landed in the central Gaza Strip, Palestinians reported.
According to the report, the incident came after Palestinian gunmen fired on an IDF patrol along the Gaza Strip border.
While the IDF confirmed that its soldiers were attacked, and that they returned fire, it had yet to verify the authenticity of the Palestinian reports.
Channel 10 reported that the IDF responded not with tank fire but with mortar shells.
Shortly after the event took place, Hamas announced that the victim was actually a three-year-old girl.
The Hamas claim regarding regarding the victim's age could not be confirmed.
No soldiers were wounded in the attack, which occurred near the Nahal Oz border crossing.
The troops also returned fire in the direction of their attackers, but there was no word on whether the gunmen incurred casualties.
