Uzbek National Currency Turns 15

National currency of Uzbekistan - soum - marks its 15th anniversary. The soum was introduced in Uzbekistan on 1 July 1994. The national currency is symbol of economic power and independence of Uzbekistan.

The banknotes reflect rich history of the country. Images of Registan, Tillaqori and Sherdor madrasahs, State Museum of Temurids, Gur Emir and others were used in the Uzbek banknotes.

Introduction of soum into circulation became important step in creation of effective monetary-credit system of Uzbekistan and achievement of economic independence.
