Tuesday, 30 June 2009One of the first madrasahs in Anatolia will be opened to tourism in July, executive of the restoration company said on Monday.
An executive of a company renovating the madrasah said that the "Zinciriye Madrasah" would be opened to visitors on July 11.
"The madrasah in the central Anatolian city of Aksaray was restored in return for 1 million Turkish liras, and will be opened as Tas Saray (Stone Palace)," company executive Ahmet Etlik said.
The renovation began in 2007. The Zinciriye Madrasah was constructed on a 1,250 square meter plot in the 14th century by Yahsi Bey of the Karamanid Emirate.
The 13-room building was used as a madrasah till the beginning of the 20th century, but served as a prison for people committing heavy crimes as of 1940.
It was turned into a museum in 1969. |
