Monday, 29 June 2009The Turkish education minister said on Monday that there was no definite decision about the seminary in Istanbul.
Turkey's National Education Minister Nimet Cubukcu said that there was no definite or final decision about opening Heybeliada Seminary in Istanbul.
"When we make a political decision, or come to a definite final decision, our Prime Minister or government spokesman will make the necessary statement," Cubukcu told reporters.
Cubukcu said that there was nothing she could make public about the seminary at the moment.
Today's Vatan daily newspaper published a story titled "Vocational religious school formula for Heybeliada seminary" in which it said the Turkish government was getting prepared to take action for the reopening of the Heybeliada Seminary which caused problems in relations between Turkey and European Union (EU).
The newspaper wrote, "according to CNN Turk TV channel, a report prepared upon the demand of National Education Minister Nimet Cubukcu mentions two alternatives."
"Accordingly, the high school section of the seminary will be opened as a special religious school just like vocational religious high schools providing education under the control of the education ministry. The college section of the seminary will be under Higher Education Council's (YOK) supervision," the paper also wrote.
"The second alternative is the opening of the seminary within the structure of a foundation. Legal amendments are required for both alternatives," the paper said. |
