President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mehmet Ali Talat said Thursday in the negotiations process taking place in Cyprus, the sides have for the first time brought closer to each other proposals and prepared a joint document.

Speaking to the residents of Lefke, Talat said that "for the first time, the sides are preparing a plan, a joint paper. In the past, the sides would put their proposals and the United Nations would prepare a draft proposal and place it on table. This is what happened in the case of the Annan Plan".
Touching on his meeting with the president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso in Lefkosa on Thursday, Talat said that Barroso urged the sides in Cyprus to find a solution immediately.
"This is what we are saying also. We are doing everything possible to find a solution (in Cyprus)," Talat said.
"The Cyprus problem causes difficulty for Turkish Cypriots who bear the results of a lack of solution and have to live under isolations. The Greek Cypriots, who have all the opportunities, do not carry any excitement for a solution in Cyprus," Talat said.

The international community and, especially, the European Union are responsible for the lack of excitement in Greek Cyprus to find a solution, Talat noted.

Despite having made promises, the EU lacks will to lift isolations on Turkish Cypriots, Talat also said.
