Uzbek Police Seize Nearly 20 kg of Opium in Southern Region

Uzbek police seized nearly 20 kg of opium in Surkhandarya region, southern Uzbekistan, on 19 June.

During an operation conducted by officers of the Surkhandarya Regional interior department, the trafficking of a large amount of a drug was stopped.

In Surkhandarya Region's Sariosiyo District, a local's car was inspected, and that it was discovered that the car was carrying a narcotic substance packed in two bags.

It was established as a result of an expert examination that the substance was opium weighing nearly 20 kg.

Arrested suspect said he had agreed to transport the drug from Tajikistan for US$300 dollars.

Investigation is under way.
