The situation in the dormitory of the Tehran University was stabilized and 80 detained students were released, Pro-rector of the university Mehdi Gumsari said on June 16, Mehr news agency reported.

Gumsari said the staff of the university specifies the number of the detained students and the amount of property damage. "We have no accurate information on detainees and the damage caused. At present, the management of the university is engaged in this issue," Gumsari said.

The management of the university demands to punish the perpetrators of the incident, which occurred at the university, he said.

"We are responsible for ensuring the rights of students. We turn to the court with a demand to arrest those responsible for the incident," Gumsari said.

Students staged demonstrations at the hostel of the Tehran University in support for the former presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi. Iranian police attacked the hostel, knocked down doors and inflicted large-size damage to the hostel. Several students were injured and several were arrested during the attack.

On June 15, hundreds of supporters of former presidential candidates Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi rallied in protest to the results of the June 12 presidential elections. Shots are reported to be fired in northern Tehran.
